In just over three months we have a historic opportunity to flip the Pennsylvania House and elect a Democratic majority. In just 95 days, we must do as revered Member of Congress and civil rights icon Representative John Lewis implored and “vote like we have never voted before”. If we do, we will succeed in reclaiming the soul of America and electing a legislature that more clearly reflects the values and opinions of a clear majority of Pennsylvanians.

To do that, we start by reelecting the first-term Democratic state representatives like me who won in 2018 and put Democrats within 9 seats of reclaiming a blue majority. Please help me hold this important seat by making a donation today.

Why is winning a majority important?

Quite simply, the party that holds the majority sets the legislative agenda in Harrisburg. Republican leaders have a stranglehold on what bills get out of committee to be debated by the full legislature. For example, bills to raise Pennsylvania’s minimum wage, eliminate workplace discrimination against LGBTQ workers and establish a few common sense gun reforms would very likely have the votes to pass if we could get them out of committee and to the house floor.

Rather than considering legislation that more truly reflects the thinking of most Pennsylvanians, the Republicans use their majority to pass legislation that plays to the extremist views of their rightwing supporters. We can’t get a minimum wage bill out of committee but the Republican leaders can serve up bills to restrict women’s access to abortion, gut Governor Wolf’s powers to respond to a pandemic, exempt guns from restrictions during an emergency declaration and, unfortunately much more.

My Republican opponent

My republican opponent, Wendy Graham Leland, proudly wants to be part of this tyrannical minority that makes up the majority in our legislature. Although I believe that many Republican voters in my district share a more moderate political perspective, that doesn’t appear to be true with Mrs. Leland, seemingly solidly ideologically ensconced in the same rightwing, Trump-inspired thinking we see in Harrisburg.

A quick review of her social media posts tells the story. She has attacked Member of Congress Chrissy Houlahan for opposing the use of federal troops on American streets to police demonstrators; she consistently praises the Republican legislative leaders who seek to ban abortions, impeach Governor Wolf and subsidize polluting oil and gas companies; she has even reposted statements from other Republican Trump extremists such as the controversial evangelical Reverend Franklin Graham.

Time to act is now

I have had a few weeks to recharge my batteries after winning my primary election due to the good graces of the Democratic voters in my district who blessed me with 60% of the vote. Although my primary campaign was convincingly successful, it cost nearly $70,000 and drained the campaign coffers.

Please click one of the buttons below and help me rebuild the resources I need to fend off the Trump-inspired challenge I face in the General Election and help position us to take advantage of this historic opportunity to flip the PA House from red to blue!

Thank you and and “Vote like you have never voted before”,
